Driving Financial Inclusion at Scale: Yabx’s Transformative Impact Across Africa

Yabx Technologies continues to demonstrate that digital lending, when responsibly designed and grounded in data, can deliver meaningful improvements in livelihoods and financial inclusion across Africa. A recent independent impact assessment conducted by MicroFinanza Rating (MFR) provides compelling evidence of how Yabx is achieving this at scale in Uganda, where the company now serves more than six million active borrowers through fully digital, nationwide operations.
Launched through partnerships with mobile money providers and local banks, Yabx’s Uganda platform has enabled a new generation of borrowers to access credit products that are simple, fast, and relevant to their daily needs. According to the MFR assessment, 73 percent of borrowers reported an increase in business income, and 72 percent saw a rise in business assets—both exceeding global benchmarks for financial service providers in emerging markets. Furthermore, 38 percent of Yabx’s clients created new jobs, while 88 percent expressed greater confidence in their ability to succeed in business.
These outcomes highlight Yabx’s growing role in unlocking economic potential across the informal economy. Nearly 80 percent of female clients surveyed reported increased decision-making power in household and business matters, and 60 percent used their loan to support their own income-generating activities. These impacts extend into household welfare, where 72 percent of clients reported higher income and 68 percent noted improved ability to pay for their children’s education.
The Yabx client base is predominantly low-income, digitally connected, and previously underserved. The assessment reveals that 87 percent of borrowers now feel more capable of managing financial shocks, while 93 percent reported an improved outlook on their future. In markets where traditional lenders often exclude new-to-credit populations, these gains speak to the transformative power of embedded finance.
Yabx’s impact is not limited to Uganda. The company operates in 12 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana, DRC, Rwanda, Cameroon, Malawi, and Côte d’Ivoire. Each market features tailored credit products, from school fee loans in Uganda to merchant cash advances in Tanzania and driver advances in Côte d’Ivoire. End users include market traders, salaried employees, and small merchants using Yabx loans to manage liquidity, expand inventory, and meet short-term obligations with dignity.
While the MFR assessment affirms strong impact performance, it also highlights opportunities for deeper institutional alignment. Yabx is now formalising its theory of change and developing a structured impact management framework. These steps will enable the company to strengthen accountability, deepen insight into client outcomes, and embed impact more fully into its strategic planning.
