Verdant Capital Wins “SME Financier of the Year 2025” at the Africa Global Funds Awards

This prestigious annual platform celebrates the outstanding achievements and innovations of fund service providers operating across the African continent. From custodians and fund administrators to legal advisors, brokers, fintech providers, and consultants, the Africa Global Funds (AGF) Awards spotlight the firms shaping the future of Africa’s financial services landscape.

AGF established the Awards to recognise and generate both industry and public appreciation for the exceptional efforts and accomplishments of fund service providers covering Africa.

Verdant Capital is honoured to be named SME Financier of the Year 2025, an award that celebrates institutions demonstrating excellence in supporting the growth and resilience of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises across Africa. This recognition underscores Verdant Capital’s commitment to advancing the development of micro-enterprises and SMEs, and the broader ecosystem which supports such businesses. Verdant Capital’s model that extends beyond traditional financing providing clients with strategic, operational, and technical support that enables them to thrive. Through this approach, Verdant Capital continues to catalyse direct investment into Africa, backing businesses that deliver meaningful social impact alongside strong financial returns.

The Verdant Capital Hybrid Fund invests in financial services companies, which provide critical solutions to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, especially innovative and disruptive players. The fund invests mezzanine capital, which genuinely incremental to the senior debt offering of other investors, on a pan-Africa basis. In 2025, Verdant Capital completed three investments including Bfree Nigeria, a digital credit collection company driving innovation in financial inclusion, LOLC Africa, the African operations of the leading Asian microfinance group and UsPlus, a leading South African invoice discounting business. The fund now has a total of six investments, and after the first four years of its investment period, has delivered a commercial return.

Through these achievements, Verdant Capital remains dedicated to building an inclusive and sustainable financial ecosystem across Africa empowering businesses to grow, create jobs, and transform communities.

Verdant, through its advisory activities outside the fund is supporting larger SMEs in the African continent (up to USD 50 million in assets or annual revenues) with private capital raising and responsible exits. Verdant has built a formidable track record in this regard.
