Verdant Capital was awarded Best Fintech Capital Raising Team in Africa by cfi.co in its Q1 2021 business and finance awards.
Verdant Capital won the award in a period of record deal volumes in Africa, with some USD 500 million of capital raising and M&A in the Fintech sector in 2020. Verdant Capital successfully completed transactions in the sector in 2020 with a total value of USD 40 million. The capital raises included businesses such as Tugende, a leading technology enabled MSME lender in East Africa, Retail Capital, South Africa’s Leading SME-credit tech player, and Planet42, the first mover in the South African socially-inclusive car-subscription market. The transactions were notable both for the commercial success of the businesses and their broad-based developmental impact.
Based on the growth in its own pipeline, Verdant Capital expects sector-wide deal volumes in 2021 to exceed the levels set in 2020.
Verdant Capital received the award for its track record and for its global reach, with investors in its fintech capital raises last year from a broad range of geographies including: the US, Japan, the UK, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Estonia.
In the recent cfi.co awards, ESG criteria featured highly including, BBVA of Spain and Credit Mutual of France winning awards for Responsible Investment Management, respectively and Neuberger Berman’s award for its North American ESG investment platform.
Separately in the recent Deal Makers 2020 League table rankings for investment banking, Verdant Capital was ranked third in East Africa and ninth on a pan – African basis.
