John Ewoi Joins Verdant Capital as E&S and TAF Manager

John joins Verdant Capital as Environmental & Social and Technical Assistance Facility Manager. He is an experienced environmental and social expert with technical expertise in environmental and social impact assessment and best international practices for project financing. His experience spans 7 years of managing environmental and social risks, conducting environmental impact assessments and management, and implementing land access and resettlement plans. He is experienced in the development of Environmental and Social Management Systems (“ESMS”) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (“ESMP”) for private sector clients.

Before joining Verdant Capital, John worked in the oil and gas industry with Tullow Oil, where his responsibilities included assessment and mitigation of environmental and social risks, environmental and social due diligence, development of land access and resettlement framework and resettlement action plan, social impact assessments and development of social performance policies and implementation guidance using standards such as the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Standards (“ESS”) and the IFC’s E&S Performance Standards. John also consulted for Oil and gas companies such as CEPSA and Tullow oil in northern Kenya, assessing, managing, and monitoring environmental and social risks and impacts associated with oil and gas exploration activities. 

In his role, John will support Environmental and Social performance risk management and monitoring for the Verdant Capital Hybrid Fund and be responsible for managing the Fund’s Technical Assistance Facility. John holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Egerton University in Kenya and a master’s degree in Development Practice from Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin in Ireland.
